Jurnal UGM yang terakreditasi nasional bertambah. Berdasarkan SK Dirjen Pendidikan Tinggi, Riset, dan Teknologi Kementerian Pendidikan Kebudayaan, Riset, dan Teknologi Nomor 152/E/KPT/2023 tentang Peringkat Akreditasi Jurnal Ilmiah Periode II Tahun 2023, ada dua jurnal UGM yang mendapatkan akreditasi baru.
Jurnal Populasi diterbitkan oleh Pusat Studi Kependudukan dan Kebijakan UGM memperoleh akreditasi baru Sinta 3 mulai volume 29 Nomor 2 Tahun 2021 sampai dengan volume 34 nomor 1 Tahun 2026. Fakultas Ilmu Budaya yang menerbitkan Jurnal Lexicon memperoleh akreditasi baru Sinta 3 mulai Volume 8 Nomor 2 tahun 2021 sampai dengan volume 13 nomor 1 tahun 2026.
Saat ini per Januari 2024 jumlah jurnal terbitan UGM yang memperoleh akreditasi nasional total sebanyak 87 jurnal. Pencapaian akreditasi ini diharapkan dapat terus mendorong peningkatan kualitas publikasi ilmiah di lingkungan UGM sebagai bagian peran serta UGM dalam pengembangan ilmu pengetahuan.

Indeks-h/h-index adalah ukuran yang digunakan untuk menilai pengaruh hasil penelitian ilmuwan yang dipublikasikan sesuai bidang keahliannya. Ukuran ini dipengaruhi oleh dua faktor, yaitu jumlah tulisan ilmiah yang dipublikasikan dan seberapa banyak publikasi tersebut disitasi oleh peneliti lain. Hal ini dapat dianggap sebagai titik temu produktivitas publikasi ilmiah dan kuantitas penggunaan karya pada publikasi ilmiah ilmuwan lain. Artinya, semakin tinggi nilai h-index, semakin besar juga pengaruh akademik seorang dosen/peneliti.
h-index juga berfungsi sebagai alat untuk mengukur pengaruh dan dampak tulisan ilmiah yang diterbitkan oleh dosen/peneliti. Oleh karena itu, dosen/peneliti akan berusaha meningkatkan nilai h-index dengan berbagai cara di antaranya dengan meningkatkan jumlah sitasi karya ilmiah yang telah dipublikasikan dan berkolaborasi dengan peneliti lain dalam menghasilkan publikasi baru. Kedua cara ini dipandang cukup efektif dalam mendongkrak nilai h-index. Berdasarkan data dari Scopus per 28 Agustus 2023, data 100 author UGM dengan urutan h-index tertinggi adalah sebagai berikut,

Kredibilitas dan relevansi peneliti dapat dilihat dari banyak indikator, salah satunya adalah jumlah kutipan atau sitasi sebagai referensi riset lain. Semakin banyak suatu artikel ilmiah disitasi menunjukkan bahwa publikasi tersebut dibaca dan digunakan oleh peneliti lain. Hal ini tentu saja juga membawa dampak yang baik pada reputasi UGM sebagai universitas riset kelas dunia.
Berdasarkan data dari Scopus per 22 Agustus 2023, publikasi UGM dengan urutan sitasi terbanyak diperoleh dari artikel berjudul ‘Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2): An overview of viral structure and host response’ dengan total 628 Sitasi. Artikel ini ditulis oleh dosen dari Departemen Farmakologi dan Terapi FKKMK UGM yang terbit pada jurnal Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome: Clinical Research and Reviews dengan CiteScore: 15.4 dan h-index: 71. Direktorat Penelitian Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) menyelenggarakan kegiatan “Workshop dan FGD Peningkatan Kualitas Jurnal Ilmiah UGM Tahun 2023” yang diselenggarakan pada Senin, 31 Juli 2023 di Ruang Bulaksumur, Gadjah Mada University Club (UC) Hotel UGM. Acara ini bertujuan untuk memperkuat kerja sama dan kolaborasi pengelola jurnal ilmiah sehingga meningkatkan kualitas jurnal dan mendorong pertumbuhan pengelolaan jurnal di lingkungan UGM. Selain itu, acara ini diharapkan juga dapat menjadi forum berbagi pengalaman, pemikiran, dan praktik terbaik dalam pengelolaan jurnal ilmiah di UGM.
Acara dibuka oleh Sekretaris Direktorat Penelitian UGM, Prof. drg. Diatri Nari Ratih, M.Kes., Ph.D., Sp.KG(K). yang dalam sambutan pembukaannya menyampaikan harapan besar kepada seluruh pengelola jurnal di lingkungan UGM agar dapat turut meningkatkan reputasi UGM sebagai universitas riset yang unggul salah satunya melalui pengelolaan jurnal ilmiah yang bereputasi. Harapan ini juga didukung dengan adanya berbagai program pengelolaan jurnal ilmiah yang diselenggarakan oleh Direktorat Penelitian UGM. Kasubdit Publikasi Ilmiah dan Kekayaan Intelektual Direktorat Penelitian UGM, Ratih Fitria Putri, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., menyampaikan berbagai program bantuan, layanan, fasilitasi, dan kebijakan yang dikelola Direktorat Penelitian agar mempermudah dan mendukung jurnal-jurnal ilmiah di UGM semakin bereputasi. Peningkatan reputasi jurnal di lingkungan UGM tentunya akan berdampak luas baik pada kinerja universitas maupun pengembangan dan diseminasi ilmu pengetahuan yang berkembang di UGM.
Akreditasi jurnal ilmiah merupakan salah satu instrumen untuk mendorong jurnal ilmiah agar dapat memenuhi kualitas tertentu dan menerapkan praktik terbaik dalam publikasi ilmiah. Sejalan dengan hal tersebut, lembaga-lembaga pengindeks jurnal ilmiah juga menerapkan standar yang ketat dan proses evaluasi yang lebih komprehensif untuk menjamin bahwa jurnal-jurnal yang terindeks memenuhi standar penerbitan yang baik. Oleh karena itu, pengelola jurnal ilmiah di UGM dituntut memiliki pengetahuan yang memadai dan mengikuti perkembangan terkini baik terkait akreditasi, indeksasi, dan pengetahuan penting lain yang dibutuhkan dalam pengelolaan jurnal.
Koordinator Publikasi Ilmiah dan Jurnal Ilmiah DRTPM DIKTI Ristek, Yoga Dwi Arianda, S.T., dihadirkan secara langsung sebagai narasumber pada sesi pertama untuk memberikan pemaparan dan sosialisasi terkait akreditasi jurnal ilmiah kepada para peserta yang merupakan perwakilan tim strategis (editor in chief/editor) dan tim teknis (managing editor/editor assistant) pengelola jurnal di UGM. Pemaparan materi selanjutnya yaitu praktik terbaik indeksasi jurnal ilmiah di Scopus disampaikan oleh narasumber kedua, Dr. Miftahul Ilmi, S.Si., M.Si. yang merupakan editor in chief Journal of Tropical Biodiversity and Biotechnology (JTBB). Sesi pertama ini dipandu oleh moderator Ide Yunianto, S.Si., M.Eng selaku Koordinator Bidang Pengelolaan Jurnal Ilmiah Direktorat Penelitian UGM.
Direktorat Penelitian UGM juga menghadirkan narasumber dari Tim Percepatan Peningkatan Reputasi Jurnal UGM sebagai narasumber. Narasumber pertama Dr. Andri Putra Kesmawan, S.IP, M.IP memaparkan materi seputar penerapan lisensi creative commons pada jurnal ilmiah dilanjutkan Dr. Purwani Istiana, S.I.P.,M.A. yang memaparkan materi seputar praktik terbaik indeksasi jurnal ilmiah di DOAJ. Sesi kedua ini dipandu oleh Agustina Asih Tri Utami, S.T.P. sebagai moderator.
Pada sesi terakhir yaitu sesi Focus Group Discussion (FGD) dilaksanakan diskusi dan pendampingan langsung, sejumlah 174 peserta yang merupakan perwakilan dari 103 jurnal di UGM dibagi menjadi empat kelompok berbeda sesuai kondisi terkini jurnal masing-masing dan sesuai klaster keilmuan jurnal. Diskusi rencana strategis jurnal ilmiah untuk jurnal bidang sains dipandu moderator Dr. Miftahul Ilmi, S.Si., M.Si dan untuk kelompok jurnal ilmiah bidang soshum dipandu moderator Widya Paramita, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D.
Melalui kegiatan workshop dan FGD ini diharapkan dapat memberikan luaran di antaranya: pengelola jurnal UGM mendapatkan tambahan pengetahuan mengenai praktik terbaik (best practices) dan informasi terkini terkait pengelolaan jurnal ilmiah; memahami alur proses akreditasi jurnal nasional dan indeksasi jurnal ilmiah; serta mendapatkan informasi terkini terkait program pengembangan jurnal ilmiah yang diselenggarakan oleh Direktorat Penelitian. Dengan pengelolaan yang baik, diharapkan kualitas dan reputasi jurnal-jurnal UGM akan semakin meningkat.
