Prof. Dr. Ir. Budi Santosa Wignyosukarto, Dip. H.E., lecturer of the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and a leading expert in wetland management and development, received the Sutami Awards 2025 presented by the Ministry of Public Works (PU). He was awarded during the Sutami Awards Appreciation Night 2025, held on Monday, 1 December 2025, at the Auditorium of the Ministry of Public Works, Jakarta.
The Sutami Awards is a national award program organized by the Ministry of Public Works to appreciate contributions from various stakeholders, including academics, government institutions, communities, media, and service providers. The awards are presented to individuals or institutions that have contributed to national infrastructure development. The main objective of the Sutami Awards is to encourage innovation, integrity, and multi-sector collaboration which encompasses government, academia, communities, private sectors, and media, while enhancing the quality and societal impact of infrastructure development.
In 2025, the Sutami Awards were presented across several categories, including ministry/agency, regional governments (provincial, regency, and municipal), communities, service providers, academics, media and journalists, as well as a special Lifetime Achievement Award Category. Prof. Dr. Ir. Budi Santosa Wignyosukarto, Dip. H.E., was selected as the awardee of the Sutami Awards in the Academic Category for his dedication and expertise as a Wetland Specialist in the Revitalization of the Ex-Mega Rice Project.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Budi Santosa Wignyosukarto, Dip. H.E., is a senior academic at UGM with strong expertise in Water Resources Engineering, particularly in river and wetland hydraulics, mathematical modeling of water resources, and wetland management and development. His academic and professional track record reflects extensive experience in designing, developing, and evaluating sustainable water management systems, including peatland and wetland areas that constitute strategic priorities in national development. His expertise spans technical design, modeling, conservation, and environmental risk mitigation, making him a widely consulted expert in wetland rehabilitation and revitalization programs, including the revitalization of the Ex-Mega Rice Project. Through a combination of scientific knowledge, applied research, and direct contributions to water resource policy, Prof. Budi Santosa Wignyosukarto has become a key figure in strengthening environmental management and sustainable infrastructure development in Indonesia.
